firegabeplease how do I remove it so I can re paint it?? Need to fix a scrape

thanks in advance
Firegabe

Ed W.Now here is a subject I can relate to.
Has anyone ever given some thought to a device that would bolt to the front crossmember that would have an extension
that hugs the bottom of the nose. Whenever you would come up to (say) a parking block, you would hear the scraping and stop immediately, with no damage to the nose.
Just an idea.
Larry Lord, what do you think?

TBarrowI stop when I look to my left and am even with the rear tire of the vehicle next to me. No scrapes.....

TFischerFiregabe: You need to take the grille off first (4 screws), then the headlight pods by first taking off the black tops (silver screws) and then the headlight pods themselves. There are two small plastic nuts under the headlight pods as well that you can access from the grille area on each side - I believe these are 10mm. You will be able to feel them when you put your hand in the grille area. Then unbolt the nose from underneath and top. You will need to take off your side panels to get the two bolts behind them. You will then have two clips on the side facia that you can access from below the car. I used a straight blade screwdriver to pop them open enough to get it off. Will take about 30-45 minutes. Tami
1buddyc.....And with the nose off it would be REAL EASY to install Larry Lord's Wonder Bar. You could kill two birds with one stone! Buddy

firegabeThanks !!! how ever i must say the nose killed it's self to save the rest of the car. On the freeway in the right lane two cars up a pickup hit a bump and kicked out a couple cinderblocks after the two cars swerved on my right I had no choice but to hit the one that broke up in mie lane, well that or center devider.

thanks!!! for the help!!
Gabe

butchceeGabe, it could have been worse. At least you're OK. The rest can be fixed.
catfished w.why would you want something else to add below the frt.facia
thats also going to get scraped up.doesnt make any sense.i know, how about some old time cub feelers, would look great sticking out the frt.,about 2 inches apart.

Ed W.The intent is to suggest something/anything that would prevent the scraping of the "chin". I thought that it wouldn't need to be any wider that 2 1/2", would literally hug the chin. and not protrude all that far forward. It could be color keyed (annodized if it were aluminum) to blend in with the color of the car and touched up periodically with paint. The idea would be to keep it "almost invisible" to the average person.
Come, let's face it, we all worry about the chin scrapes.
Just an idea........

RayI want to say that Bob at RealRod HAS what you are asking for ... aside from his front end protectors, I have seen pics of Kats with a "chin" plate ... but true, it too will get scraped, but I guess you could remove and replace and is cheaper than painting ... do a search ... but what you seek is out there already from someone!
CJEd...........sometimes "ideas" posted on here do become reality. If owners didn't pose questions to improve the car or ideas that may or may not work, we wouldn't have had some of the aftermarket parts that are now available....like Larry Lord's trailer stand or wonder bar or hinge protectors, just to name a few.

Maybe, if something like that had been done, most of us who have done that to our cats......wouldn't have!

Your point is well taken. Myself, I don't have the fabrication skills (ideas are easier & cheaper). I thought if I threw out a concept, maybe a fabricator might see
something & go with it. As usual, many thanks for the kind words. No harm done.

I was unaware that there was anything out there. Many thanks for the "heads-up".

ed monahanTami, I did not take the tops of the headlights off. There is a large plastic nut underneath the front portion of the headlights and I think 2 or 3 other nuts that you can access.
R DorigoFiregabe: From what I read on this site the easiest way to get the nose off is to run into a parking bumper. Evidently it work most of the time !

Ed: Then I did it the long way!! Next time I'll check closer into that!! Thanks for the info, T
